Welcome to Memory Drift

I was cleaning out my tech products junk drawer this morning and stumbled upon my old iPod. I had a fondness for that device. The pre-smartphone era was my second favorite tech phase just behind “The 90s” when I learned to code.

In another junk drawer on the other side of the house I found an old 30pin connector and hooked it up. It immediately mounted on my Mac Mini and revealed a bunch of files from my days of using part of the drive space as a portable hard drive.

This iPod was an iPod 5th Gen with video from the fall of 2005. It was with me daily from home to the office to the gym and beyond; until that fateful day of June 30, 2007 when I picked up my iPhone from the Apple Store.

Based on the most recent last modified timestamp I could find on a file or folder, I stopped using this as a portable hard drive around November 25, 2007.

I immediately copied the entire drive to my Synology and immediately proceeded to waste the rest of my day going through my unintentional time capsule and decided to start this site to share those memories with my family and friends. All while listening to music on it through the good ole headphone jack. Surprisingly, it still holds about 45 minutes on a full charge. Not bad for a 19 year old device.

See you again soon with more memories.
